WASHINGTON, D.C., (November 29, 2023) – On the latest episode of Tennessee Talks, Rep. Tim Burchett (TN-02) joins Blount County Sheriff James "Jimbo" Berrong for a ride-along to discuss how law enforcement has changed, the unique challenges facing law enforcement in Blount County, the fentanyl crisis, and the new drug task force center currently being constructed.
“Jimbo has been a good friend of mine for years,” said Rep. Burchett. “He's got the Blount County Sheriff's Department in great shape and keeps the folks that live in the area safe because of his leadership.”
Sheriff Berrong has remained committed to maintaining law and order for the citizens of Blount County for more than 30 years. He began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1977 before transferring to Maryville Police Department as a reserve officer from 1980 through 1989. In 1989 Berrong inherited a staff of 65 men and women. Now, with the help of his staff, the Sheriff’s Office has 350 professional deputy sheriffs.
