Rep. Rose Slams Secret Service Director for Security Failures at Trump Rally, Urges Transparency

WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-06) took to the House Floor Tuesday in support of the many Americans who want answers about the security failures ahead of the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump and assurances that events like it don’t happen again.

The full remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below:

Mister Speaker, the American people continue to learn about the security failures leading up to the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. They deserve to know what happened and that this will never happen again.

This week, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified in the House Oversight Committee after being subpoenaed.

Her testimony should have been voluntary as times such as this require transparency. Nevertheless, House Republicans are committed to getting to the bottom of what happened that awful day in Pennsylvania.

I want to commend the heroism exhibited by the agents working the president’s detail. Yet, the agency for which they serve must be held accountable. With more than $3 billion in annual funding, a would-be assassin should have never been able to fire multiple rounds at a presidential candidate from a roof a couple hundred yards away.
