REP. OGLES CALLS ON SPEAKER McCARTHY TO RE-ESTABLISH BYRD COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Andy Ogles (TN-05) called on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA-20) to re-establish the Byrd Committee. The Byrd Committee, formally known as the Joint Committee on Reduction of Non-Essential Federal Expenditures, existed from 1941 to 1974. The purpose of the committee was to examine all federal government spending and identify non-essential funding. The committee would then recommend the reduction or elimination of the wasteful spending.

“At a time when federal spending is out of control, and Congress truly has no idea where exactly all the money is going, renewed accountability is necessary. Crippling rates of inflation and unprecedented levels of expenditures are destroying the financial well-being of Americans,” said Congressman Ogles. “The re-establishment of a Byrd Committee to identify all of the waste in current and proposed spending would help drive down costs and bring relief to millions of hard-working folks. Furthermore, it would create desperately needed transparency in Washington. I’m calling on Speaker McCarthy to take action and protect the interests of the American people.”
