Rep. Matt Gaetz joins Rep. Burchett on Tennessee Talks to discuss Speaker vote

WASHINGTON, D.C., (October 18, 2023) – On the latest episode of Tennessee Talks, U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) joins Rep. Tim Burchett (TN-02) to discuss their votes to remove Speaker McCarthy from his position.

“Matt is a friend of mine who works hard and isn’t afraid to make tough decisions, and here in Washington that’s a rare trait,” said Rep. Burchett. “We didn’t take this vote lightly, and I’m glad we could have a real conversation about what happened so the American people can hear it directly from us instead of just hearing the mainstream media spin on it.”

Rep. Gaetz offered a motion to vacate the chair on October 3, 2023, which would remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position. The House voted in favor of the resolution, with Reps. Gaetz and Burchett joining six other Republicans to pass the motion.

Rep. Gaetz currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee and hosts the popular “Firebrand” podcast.
