Rep. Burchett statement on voting against FISA reauthorization

WASHINGTON, D.C., (April 12, 2024) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted against H.R. 7888 the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act. This bill would reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) for two years.

“The FBI has been using FISA to spy on American citizens for years. I didn’t come to Congress to vote for the status quo, I came here to vote for changes that protect Americans’ constitutional rights. This bill doesn’t do that,” said Rep. Burchett. “I won’t support our government conducting warrantless queries or searches against American citizens, and exempting members of Congress from the standard rules that apply to everyone else.”

The Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act was reauthorized by a vote of 273-147.
