Rep. Burchett statement on Secret Service Director Cheatle's resignation

WASHINGTON, D.C., (July 23, 2024) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) released the following statement after Kimberly Cheatle resigned from her position as Director of the United States Secret Service.

“She shouldn't have been able to resign, she should've been fired. Her inability was clearly on display and it cost a brave firefighter his life and nearly cost the president his. This administration has a pattern of not naming the best and brightest to top posts, I'm glad she's gone.” Said Rep. Burchett.

Cheatle's resignation comes a day after she testified before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on the security failures that enabled an assassination attempt on former president Donald J. Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
