Rep. Burchett, 6 others who ousted McCarthy offer to accept Conference consequences to help unite around a Speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C., (Oct. 20, 2023) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) and six other members of the House Republican Party who voted for the motion to vacate the chair and remove Speaker McCarthy from office sent a letter offering to accept consequences from the Republican Conference to help unite the party around Jim Jordan for Speaker.

“This is bigger than me. Electing a Speaker of the House who can get our fiscal crisis in order is more important than any one member of Congress. No matter what happens, I will always remain a proud Republican who will always fight for what’s best for our country.” Said Rep. Burchett.

The letter was sent as a Dear Colleague and states that while the eight members stand by their votes for the motion to vacate the chair, they are willing to accept censure, suspension, or removal from the Republican Conference if it means uniting the party around the Speaker-Designate Jim Jordan.

The letter was signed by Reps. Tim Burchett (TN-02), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Eli Crane (AZ-02), Matt Gaetz (FL-01), Bob Good (VA-05), Nancy Mace (NC-01) and Matt Rosendale (MT-02).
