BRISTOL, Tenn. — Gov. Bill Lee toured the Northeast Tennessee Disaster Relief Center at Bristol Motor Speedway on Monday alongside Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. Diana Harshbarger.
The speedway's South Building is where the relief center is based. It is full of supplies for those affected by the flooding event caused by Hurricane Helene.
Local officials, the military and numerous volunteers are working around the clock to distribute the supplies to those in need.
“... (M)y message to these people are look: you trust me, you trust Marsha, you trust the governor. Listen, let these people come in, let them help you because we wouldn't steer you in the wrong way and if you do mistrust them, you call my office and I'll be happy to help coordinate that…,” she said.
“I know how they feel,” Harshbarger concluded. “They don't trust anybody that says, ‘I'm here from the government and I'm here to help.’”
