Congressman Kustoff Statement on National Security Supplemental Vote

 — Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN) released the following statement regarding his vote on the national security supplemental package in the House of Representatives:

"Today, the House of Representatives voted to send emergency assistance to Israel, the Indo-Pacific, and Ukraine, and to strengthen our national security.

"President Biden’s failed leadership has created chaos around the world. Russia, China, and Iran have formed a new axis of evil to threaten democracy and wreak havoc among the United States and our allies.

"There are no easy solutions to address all the geopolitical threats facing the world today. America’s investment will support our allies and show strength on the world stage.

"Iran and its terrorist proxies are responsible for the deadliest attack on Israel and the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Just last week, Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles towards Israel. Today’s supplemental package will replenish the Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems, as well as the Iron Beam defense system to counter short-range threats. Additionally, it will provide advanced weapons and artillery, and support U.S. military operations in the region.

"At the start of this year, China’s President Xi said that he intends to invade Taiwan to reunify the country. Taiwan has been independent from China since 1949. The legislation passed today will deter Chinese aggression by strengthening U.S. military infrastructure and capabilities in the region. It will also allow for the U.S. purchase of advanced weapons systems in the Indo-Pacific to counter Communist China’s growing military strength.

"If Vladimir Putin is successful in Ukraine, he will continue his expansion into NATO territory. Today’s vote continues to ensure that we do not send U.S. troops to Eastern Europe. If we do not confront Putin now, it will cost American taxpayers significantly more long term.

"Vladimir Putin, President Xi, and the Iranian regime are not our allies. Their goals are simple. Russia, China, and Iran want to destroy democracy, eliminate Israel, and expand communism.

"Today, I voted to show the world that America does not tolerate terrorism and we will not allow our enemies to infringe on the sovereign rights of our allies.
