Congressman Burchett statement on House going home

WASHINGTON, D.C., (Sept. 21, 2023) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) released the following statement on the possibility of members of Congress going home without a spending deal:

“I’m totally disgusted we are talking about going home when a shutdown is looming. This is a terrible idea when we should stay in D.C. and work through our differences and deliver the results we all promised the American people.”

September 30 marks the end of the fiscal year. If Congress fails to pass 12 appropriations bills or a continuing resolution to temporarily fund the federal government by that date, the federal government will shut down until a spending package is passed.
