Burchett votes in favor of bills backing law enforcement officers

WASHINGTON, D.C., (May 18, 2023) – This week, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted in favor of three bills to support law enforcement officers.

The Protect Our Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act, which would create an immediate course of action to remove illegal aliens that have been convicted of, or admit to, assaulting a law enforcement officer.

The Federal Law Enforcement Service Weapon Purchase Act, which would allow current federal law enforcement officers to purchase a retired service weapon at market value from a federal agency. Current federal regulations require all federal agencies to destroy their weapons when they are retired from official use. Destroying these weapons cost the American taxpayers around $8 million.

H. Con. Res. 40, Expressing support for local law enforcement officers and condemning efforts to defund or dismantle local law enforcement agencies, which is especially important after Democrats have repeatedly demonized these heroes and have seemed to cut funding from local police departments.

"These are good bills that let our men and women in blue know that we have their back," said Rep. Burchett. "I was proud to vote for this legislation to make our country safer, save taxpayer dollars, and reinforce our appreciation for the folks who put their lives on the line every time they walk out their door."
