Burchett votes for bill to keep illegal immigrants off voter rolls

WASHINGTON, D.C., (July 10, 2024) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted in favor of H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

The bill would require individuals to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections and provide states with access to existing federal databases so they can better clean up their voter rolls and remove noncitizens.

“If you’re not an American, you don’t get to choose our nation’s leaders,” said Rep. Burchett. “Many Democrats want to get as many noncitizens and illegal immigrants on the voter rolls as they can, but we can’t let that happen. We need to protect Americans’ rights.”

The bill passed 221-198.
