Burchett votes against Homeland Security appropriations bill

WASHINGTON, D.C., (June 28, 2024) – Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) voted against H.R. 8752, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act

“The House voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for neglecting to do his job, why would we want to give him more money for his failed border policies?” said Rep. Burchett.

H.R. 8752 cost $64.81 billion, which is $2.96 billion above FY 2024 levels.

On February 7, 2024, Rep. Burchett voted for the impeachment articles filed against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, which stated Mayorkas, “willfully and systematically refused to comply with Federal immigration laws” and accuse him of “breach of public trust.”

Under this administration:

  • Over 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States under the Biden administration.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has identified over 400 illegal immigrants who are “subjects of concern” because they were brought in by an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network. The whereabouts of over 50 of these individuals remain unknown.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has admitted that 40% of catch and release illegal immigrants have disappeared.
