U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s budget proposal thatraises taxes by over $2 trillion.
“The federal government can’t get enough of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars,”said Senator Blackburn. “This time around, President Biden’s plan is to increase taxes on business owners to fund his radical, socialist agenda. We are already $31.5 trillion in debt as we spend money we do not have and are forced to borrow even more from Communist China. More spending and more taxes is not the solution. We need real spending cuts. That is why I have introduced a proposal to cut non-defense spending across the board by 5%.”
BACKGROUND
- Senator Blackburn’s budget cuts are targeted at non-defense, non-homeland security, and non-veteran affairs discretionary spending for each fiscal year 2024 and 2025.
- Under President Biden’s watch, federal spending has increased by over $6 trillion, and our deficit has increased by over $4.8 trillion.
- According to the IRS, the top 1% of earners paid 42.3% of the country’s income taxes.
