Biden's $98 billion Helene aid request doesn't include enough for Tennessee, Harshbarger says

U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger thinks President Joe Biden's $98.6 billion request for disaster relief from Congress isn't enough.

Biden requested the emergency supplemental aid from Congress on Nov. 18 to help victims of natural disasters, primarily Hurricanes Helene and Milton, but also other emergencies.

Harshbarger represents all eight East Tennessee counties that were devastated by Helene, which killed 17 people in the Volunteer State. She told Knox News in an email Tennessee needs $510 million to fix its infrastructure, including roads and bridges that remain closed.

"From our early conversations with TDOT, it appears that number isn’t met in the president’s proposal, which includes almost $2 billion for the Francis Scott Key Bridge (in Maryland) alone," she said.
